Ternus Illusion

The Ternus Illusion, also known as the Ternus Effect, is a term that describes an illusion of apparent motion that is registered by the eye under certain circumstances. Most commonly, this illusion occurs when the eye is presented with shifting stimuli (pictures) in rapid sequence. It was first described by the Gestalt psychologist Joseph Ternus in 1926.
