Splitting
In Jungian psychology, splitting refers to a dissociation of possibility, which is demonstrated by changes in behavior and attitudes that are determined by complexes. Complexes are pervasive patterns of emotions, memories, perceptions, and wishes that exist in in the personal unconscious. These patterns are organized around a common theme, such as power or status. Splitting, although a serious symptom of psychopathology, does not rise to the level of dissociative personality disorder.
