Sjogren's Syndrome
Sjogren's (Show-gren's) Syndrome is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attacks the exocrine glands throughout the body. Hallmark symptoms are dry eyes and mouth, but other symptoms include impaired function of the kidneys, liver, bladder, digestive system - essentially any body organ or system that requires lubricating fluid for proper function. Additional symptoms include fatigue and joint pain. Sjogren's Syndrome is often referred to as a cousin to Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE, or "Lupus").
