Sexism
Sexism is discrimination based on gender and preferential treatment of one sex over another. For example, women still make on average less money than men, and many people cite this as evidence for sexism in the workplace. Perhaps employers feel that women don’t perform as well on the job. Or employers feel that women do perform as well as men but that their performance for some reason doesn’t warrant higher pay or a salary equal to that of a man with the same experience, in the same position. Whatever the reason, this difference in earnings is considered by many to be sexist and unfair.
