Proximity

Proximity means closeness, either in terms of physical distance, personal relationship, or length of time. If someone is sitting next to you, then they are in close proximity to you. Likewise, events in time can be either proximal (near each other) or distal (far apart), and relationships can be close (e.g., a boyfriend or girlfriend) or distant (e.g., an estranged relative).
