Peter Brereton Townsend
Peter Brereton Townsend (1928-2009) was a British sociologist, researcher, and professor who cofounded the University of Essex. He also authored a deprivation index which measures domains associated with poverty. One of his most passionate interests was the plight of the underprivileged people. The Peter Townsend Policy Press Prize was created by the British Academy to commemorate the intellectual contributions of Townsend.
