Original Sin
Original sin is a core concept of the Christian religion. It refers to the "fall" of the human race from the paradise where Adam and Eve had lived, in the "Garden of Eden," to living in the non-paradise world outside of Eden. This "sin," which is never explicitly identified, is told about in a story which begins with Eve eating a fruit taken from the "Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil" (reportedly enticed by a snake) against God's instructions. She shares this fruit with Adam and suddenly they realize that they are both naked. They then make clothing for themselves and hide from God due to embarrassment (whether this is due to being naked or from disobeying God is not clear). They are then banished from Eden and must make their own way in the world. Christianity's main thrust (theologically) has been in trying to redeem the human race from the "fallout" of being descended from these two fallen beings.
