Orbicularis Oculi

The orbicularis oculi is the muscle around the eye-opening; it is also important in closing the eyelids.

It has three sections: orbital, palpebral, and lacrimal.

The orbital ocularis portion is around the opening of the eye, has a reddish color, and is thicker. The palpebral ocularis is composed of thin and pale concentric curves at the corner of the eye and contains the muscle which is responsible for blinking. The lacrimal orbicularis is generally indistinct as it is composed of very thin and pale muscle fibers. It is involved in pumping tears into the lacrimal sac.
