Neocortex
The neocortex is part of the mammalian brain (the most highly developed part of the brain).and belongs to the cerebral cortex. It plays a major role in all of the higher functions such as the primary visual and auditory cortices. Evolutionarily. the neocortex present in mice has a smooth surface, in higher animals and humans it becomes an organ that contains ridges and sulci (grooves) to provide more surface neurons to process the greater demands of higher species.
