Necrosis
Necrosis comes from the Greek word “nekrosis” which means “becoming dead”. It is a kind of cell injury which leads to premature cell death. This is caused by infection, trauma, toxins, temperature, or other factors. For instance, in frostbite, ice crystals form which increase pressure and cause the cells to burst which may progress to the death of tissues. Necrosis is also the result of the loss of blood circulation to body parts, organs or skin that causes the death of limbs, organs, muscles and skin such as the results of severe infections and disease processes.
