Legasthenia
Legasthenia is based on the Latin word “lagere” which means “to read” and the Greek word “astheneia” which means “weakness”. It is characterized by the difficulty in combining letters into words despite having no learning, intellectual, or perceptual disability. This is a controversial syndrome since affected individuals have no apparent inadequacy. This term was introduced by Paul Ranschburg, a Hungarian psychiatrist, in 1916.
