Laryngeal Reflex

Laryngeal reflex protects the airways while in the process of drawing breath or aspiration by reacting to the inhalation of irritating or dangerous substances.. This is also referred to as cough reflex since it facilitates coughing when the larynx is irritated. This is why you cough when you inhale dust.
