Laparotomy

Laparotomy or abdominal exploration is a surgical incision through the abdominal wall in preparation for surgery or for a diagnosis. For instance, a patient under general anesthesia is on the operating table. The surgeon cuts through his abdomen so he can clearly see the underlying organs. He was then able to spot a perforated large intestine which he is able to repair.
