An inappropriate stimulus is something that triggers an unusual or counterintuitive response. For instance, the act of pressing someone’s closed eyes (inappropriate stimulus) makes them perceive lights. This is generally an unexpected response since the eyes need to be open for its photoreceptors to sense light.
