Gonadal Dysgenesis (GD)
Gonadal dysgenesis (GD) refers to the defective development of the sex glands in an embryo. This congenital disorder is often a part of a genetic syndrome such as Turners syndrome, and Klinefelter’s syndrome. GD may be classified as complete or partial. In complete gonadal dysgenesis, there is no gonadal development which results to having a completely female phenotype as in the case of Turner’s syndrome which is characterized by the 23rd chromosomal pair, XO. In partial gonadal dysgenesis, the Y chromosome is present; however, there is incomplete testicular determination which results to genital ambiguity.
