Genetic Predisposition
Genetic predisposition is the susceptibility to develop a certain disease, emotional response, or condition due to genetic makeup. Having a genetic predisposition is not necessarily a cause but a risk factor. This susceptibility is passed on through generations such as cancer, diabetes, asthma, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. Individuals with a particular genetic predisposition may be more carefully monitored by physicians due to their family history. It is also arguable that a predisposition for substance abuse exists.
