Excoriation
Excoriation is also called skin picking or dermatillomania. It is a mental illness characterized by compulsively picking one’s own skin which leads to lesions. An individual with excoriation disorder may spend his significant hours per day by repeatedly picking at scabs, pimples, warts, and even healthy skin. There are more women who were reported to have this condition and it usually begins to manifest during adolescence. This is also more common among those with obsessive compulsive disorder. The treatments include antidepressant medications and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
