Dura Mater

The dura mater is one of the layers called meninges which cover the brain and the spinal cord. It is the outer most layer of the brain; just beneath the skull. “Dura mater” is a Latin term which literally means “hard mother”. It is a tough membrane which consists of dense connective tissue which functions as a protection of the central nervous system.
