Deschooling
Deschooling is the transitional phase which the child experiences when leaving the usual school system and starting homeschooling. It is also defined as the process of shifting education’s functions from conventional schools to non-institutionalized learning environments where the child can learn and grow with less restrictions. This term is based on the principles of Ivan Illich, a Croatian-Austrian philosopher, with his book, “Deschooling Society”. Illich believed that educational systems tend to focus on rigorous but less meaningful aims such as accreditations and high scores instead of more significant life skills.
