Corpus Luteum
The corpus luteum is a temporary structure created by the female body as part of the menstrual cycle. The corpus luteum (a yellow body) secretes a moderate amount of estrogen that is responsible for inhibiting the further release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). This inhibition controls the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). The body creates a new corpus luteum with each menstrual cycle.
