Bender Visual-Motor Gestalt Test

The Bender Visual-Motor Gestalt Test or the Bender Gestalt Test evaluates the visual maturity and perception, and eye-hand coordination skills of children and adults. The results of this assessment are used in identifying possible brain impairment and in shedding more light on the developmental level of the nervous system. The test-taker’s motivation and cognition abilities such as organization, planning, revising, and discerning skills are also observed. Nine geometric figures are copied one at a time and the output’s quality as well as the behavior during the assessment are taken into careful consideration. This test was developed by Lauretta Bender, a child neuropsychiatrist, and she based the figures on the work of Max Wertheimer, one of the founders of Gestalt psychology.
