Avoiding Interference

Avoiding interference is a type of self-defense mechanism where an individual gives only limited attention to potentially stressful information. For instance, in a performance review with a supervisor it is easy to be dismissive of (or even ignore) criticism, no matter how constructive, while listening eagerly to positive feedback.
