Asynchrony

Asynchrony is the state of not being synchronous. This has many meanings depending of the topic that is being discussed. However, in the field of education it refers to "asynchronous learning," a student-centered method of teaching that relies on online sources of information and is flexible in regards to space and time for sharing information. This is seen in the proliferation of online colleges, universities, and tech schools that allow students to view learning materials such as lectures and other visual modalities on their own schedules rather that dealing with on-campus, scheduled, classroom attendance.
