Aphonia
Aphonia describes the inability to speak normally or produce speech sounds. It is essentially a person losing their voice and being unable to produce language. It is more severe than dysphonia which is an impairment in the ability to speak and produce sounds. Aphonia can be caused by a tumor or damage to the recurrent laryngeal nerve which controls the muscles in the larynx of the throat.
