Afferent Neurons
Afferent neurons (also known as sensory neurons or afferent nerve fibers) are pathways that carry sensory information from the body to the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord). These neurons receive information from sensory stimuli and carry impulses from receptors in muscles, organs, and glands to the central nervous system where it is perceived by the brain. The opposite of this are efferent neurons which are conducting cells that carry information from the central nervous system to muscles and organs throughout the body. They carry electrical impulses that tell organs and muscles what to do.
