Acenesthesia

Acenesthesia is an outdated term for profound depression, that is to say depression so severe that the sufferer loses physical awareness of their own body. This level of depression, nowadays classified as severe depression, is treated with a combination of antidepressants and psychotherapy. Sometimes this term is used to mean a general loss of physical awareness or feelings of existence that an individual has in regards to their own body.
