An acceptor is a chemical or molecule that combines with another substance or molecule. An acceptor combines with a donor. For example, when hydrogen and oxygen atoms combine to form water (H2O) the two hydrogen atoms give some electrons to the oxygen atom to form a water molecule. The oxygen atom is an acceptor while the hydrogen atoms are donors.
