Acalculia is difficulty or the inability to perform simple mathematic problems or calculations. It is a type of aphasia that is acquired due to brain injury or damage (such as from a stroke). Acalculia is not to be confused with dyscalculia - a developmental disorder that manifests with difficulty learning and understanding numbers and calculations. Acalculia is an acquired disorder caused by damage or injury while dyscalculia appears as a child because it is developmental.
